I need help with custom death messages.

Does anyone know how i would add death messages like:

"&c&m------------------------------------------"
" You died of: "
" &6<Damage type>&f "
"&c&m------------------------------------------"

would i use variables or what?

  set death message to "enter message here"

Baefell i meant if you could detect the way they die. i just realized that i didnt add it in.
