code_language.skript: 
set {_delay} to "1 second" parsed as timespan
wait {_delay}
 
Just use the parse expression to get a timespan like this:
code_language.skript: 
wait "%{some::var}% seconds" parsed as timespan

And you should use list variables, delimiting variable names with dots is always bad.
