    If you create a variable with
    Code (Skript):
    1. {something.%player%}
    run the variable's code with a player condition, else if you make variable with
    Code (Skript):
    1. {something.player}
    , run the variable's code as if it were another variable

    If you make a variable without %%, when creating the variable, it will take the effect executed by the player

    What he means (I think) is that if you create it without %% it is just going to be called {thing.player} where as if you use %% like {thing.%player%} it will replace %player% with the player in the event.
